News Alert: Lebanon in crisis: Hizballah quits government … U.S.-French buildup … Israel on standby
With backing from Tehran, Hizballah and its Christian ally Michel Aoun abruptly quit the Lebanese unity government Wednesday, January 12, in a move that could pave the way for their seizure of power in Beirut. They struck as the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s (STL) prosecutor Daniel Bellemare prepared to hand over to the pre-trial judge “within hours or days” indictments naming Hizballah officials in the case of the former premier Rafiq Hariri’s assassination in 2005. Hizballah is committed to defying those indictments and refusing to hand over its top officials for extradition by the government. As the Lebanese crisis raced towards it climax, President Barack Obama, Saudi King Abdullah, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri held intense consultations in Washington and New York on a united front against Iran-backed disruptions in Beirut by Hizballah and its allies. Iran’s supreme ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said repeatedly that the STL and its rulings are “null and void” because they serve “foreign interests.” As the US, France and Israel made military and diplomatic preparations to thwart a clash, Obama scheduled a meeting with the Lebanese Prime Minister for Wednesday night, January 12, to decide how the US, France and its allies would act in a conflagration. Over the weekend, the US president ordered US vessels to buttress the Sixth Fleet stationed in the eastern Mediterranean with the USS Enterprise carrier and its strike group with 6,000 sailors and marines aboard and 80 fighter-bombers. Already deployed there is the USS Bainbridge missile destroyer . . . According to our sources, it is definitely on the cards for an Iranian-Hizballah move in Lebanon provoking a US-French military response to evolve into a clash between Hizballah and Israel, providing an opportunity for the destruction of Hizballah’s mighty missile arsenal. Iran envoy: Talks could be West’s ‘last chance’
TEHRAN (Reuters) — Talks next week between Iran and major powers concerned about its nuclear programme could be the “last chance” for the West because Tehran’s atomic capability is improving, a senior Iranian official was quoted as saying. Ali Asghar Soltanieh, Tehran’s nuclear ambassador, raised the stakes for the January 21-22 meeting with the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany, which want assurances that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons. Once Iran can make its own fuel for a research reactor, which it has said will happen this year, it may not return to negotiations if the talks to be held in Istanbul fail, the official IRNA news agency quoted him as saying on Wednesday. “It might be the last chance because by installing fuel rods produced by Iran in the core of the Tehran Research Reactor, probably parliament will not allow the government to negotiate or send its uranium outside the country and the Istanbul meeting might be the last chance for the West to return to talks.” . . . Bruno Tertrais, Senior Research Fellow at the Foundation for Strategic Research in Paris, said Soltanieh’s statement was largely bluff …
[Editor’s Note: Because Hezbollah will undoubtedly be militarily activated during the forthcoming Iran/Israel conflagration, it is virtually unavoidable that the nation of Lebanon is likely to suffer horrifying destruction at the hands of Israeli weapons of mass destruction. Utilizing the power of international law, those factions seeking to indict Hezbollah for participation in the murder of Lebanon’s former PM have hoped for a political resolution. The unfortunate truth is, Hezbollah, as a surrogate of Syria and Iran (just as Hamas is Iran’s pawn in Gaza), must be dealt with in a military fashion.
As Israel continues to attempt to negotiate an agreement that will diplomatically neutralize the Palestinian Authority’s participation during the forthcoming conflict (largely due to their close proximity to Israeli civilian populations), the American military buildup is a tacit acknowledgement that the entire Middle Eastern area will explode at some point in the near future. This forthcoming Middle Eastern war will be far more destructive than previous clashes, and the prophetic ramifications are addressed in the DVD entitled American Magog. Although prophecy figures have for decades loudly claimed that Russia is the “Gog” figure of Ezekiel 38, Christian Media has categorically predicted an American identification is appropriate, and this understanding has been in print since 1992. For details on the American Magog DVD, see LINK.]
