A losing candidate in the Senate primary in Texas last 2012 said US President Barack Obama committed a crime for allowing the attacks that happened in the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya last Sept. 11, 2012 and should be impeached. David Dewhurst, the current Lieutenant Governor of Texas also maintained that Obama is trampling on the rights and liberties of American citizens with his national health care policies / law and should also be grounds for his removal from office.
Dewhurst, who is the 2nd highest official elected in the state of Texas, is seen making the rounds of Tea Party forums after losing his campaign for the Texas Senate primary to Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz. During the Tea Party forum in Tarrant County for candidates in the race for lieutenant governor, he called for the US President’s impeachment and the call was widely circulated in the web community via Twitter and other social networking sites.
Dewhurst’s spokesman, Travis Considine told media that as an ex-CIA officer, the Lt. Governor of Texas hold very strong feelings about the tragedy in the Benghazi consulate and that he holds Obama responsible for the death of four Americans that included Christopher Stevens, the Ambassador to Libya of the United Sates. He also added that Obama should account for his failure to protect the US borders and the violation of civil rights because of Obamacare.
The person who defeated Dewhurst in the Republican Primary in 2012, Senator Ted Cruz (Republican – Texas), however admitted that there are not enough number of votes in the United States Senate to unseat Obama through impeachment. The plan though is still quite popular in Republican circles as evidenced by statements from Representative Blake Farenthold ( R–Corpus Christi ), Representative Kerry Bentivolio (R-Michigan) and Senator Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma and curiously considered by many as a friend of President Obama). Farenthold claimed in a town hall assembly that Congress can muster the votes to impeach Obama if it wanted to.
Even the former Republican candidate for vice president and ex-governor of Alaska, Ms. Sarah Palin weighed in her opinion on the 4ObamaImpeachmatter. Palin is reported to have said that Obama is playing around with offenses that are impeachable, referring to the President’s moves to increase the US debt ceiling and fix the current government shutdown.
